University Research Fund: Stimulus for the faculty to undertake quality research

JAMMU: Laying impetus on the quality research activities to be taken by the University, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu in consonance with the Research Policy of the University, has exhorted the faculty members of the University to take up active research by providing annual financial assistant to the selected faculty to the tune of Rs. 2 lac in the Faculty of Sciences, Rs. 1.5 lac in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Rs. 1 lac to other Faculties.
Seed grant shall also be provided to Assistant Professors to the tune of @ Rs. 1 lac per faculty for teachers from Sciences/Life Sciences/Mathematical Sciencesand @ Rs. 50,000/- per faculty to the teachers from Streams other than Sciences.The said amount shall be spent in one year.
Further, to avail this financial assistance, the applicant shall be required to submit his/her publications of at least last three years, his/her CV and the research proposal.
The Office of Dean, Research Studies shall soon be issuing a notification to invite proposals from the faculty in this regard. Pertinent to mention here that University has instituted a Special Fund by the name of "University of Jammu Research Fund" to enhance quality research and teaching in the University.
The said fund shall provide the bedrock for young and upcoming Scientists/Researchers to bank on assured financial support from the University for their Continuous Engagement in research.
The University Research Fund aims to promote collaborative research culture in the University including its Offsite Campuses.
The said programme in due course of time shall enable the University to maintain its close interaction with Industry and Society for developing useful Technologies.
Marching ahead in sync with the new academic pursuits, introduction of many Value added programmes is on anvil and the University shall conduct AcademicWorkshops as a support programme for implementing this.
In order to promote the Skill Based Courses in the University, the Convener, University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (UESDC), shall also be organizing Workshops regarding Storytelling in Museum: Dramatizing Heritage (Exploring the world of Heritage for the current times), Ten days Entrepreneurship Development Workshop in collaboration with JKEDI and Mountaineering Skill Learning Workshop by the end of current year.
All such path-breaking initiatives are being taken by the University with liberal financial assistance from its Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA).
Further, as an incentive to the teaching fraternity, the Vice-Chancellor has authorized financial support for various Academic activities, as per norms in vogue for the merged grant under the 12th plan.
The said initiative will enable the University faculty to attend National as well as International Seminars/Symposium/Workshops both within and outside the Country for the enhancement of their academic skills.
