RAMBAN: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has remained open for traffic from both sides today while the Mughal Road is closed for vehicular movement.
According to the Traffic Police, passenger vehicles are plying from both sides of the highway Jammu-Srinagar. However, heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) have been allowed to travel only from Jammu towards Srinagar.
The police have urged commuters to follow lane discipline, cautioning that overtaking on the highway could lead to congestion. The Traffic Police further advised passengers to travel on the highway during the daytime and avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal.
The Police have further warned about the risk of landslides and shooting stones on the route, adding that traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Road are closed to traffic, the Traffic Police said.
According to police authorities the Mughal Road continues to remain closed for vehicular movement as per District Magistrate Poonch's order dated 18-1-2025, which was issued in view of snow accumulation.
The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road is also closed for vehicular movement as per Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kokernag's advisory dated 16-1- 2025.
The Traffic Police further said that subject to fair weather and good road conditions and after getting a green signal from road maintenance agency BRO only one-way traffic for all LMVs with anti-skid chains and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg only up to cut-off timing.
Meanwhile the security forces have also been advised not to ply against the traffic advisory in view of the possibility of traffic congestion because of the narrow carriage way between Nashree and Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar highway.
