JAMMU: The northern railway has clarified that there is no damage to the Chakki Bridge on Jammu -Delhi Railway line and the bridge is safe for rail operations.
"Some section of media has reported that on Jammu - Delhi Railway line in Kangra, a large portion of the bridge foundation got washed away," CPRO, northern railways said Wednesday.
"It is informed that Chakki Railway Bridge between Pathankot Cantt- Kandrori stations on Pathankot- Jalandhar Cantt route, experienced flash floods, water level rose on 20.07.2025 & 21.07.2025. Northern Railway has already imposed speed caution of 20 Kmph on the bridge since 01.08.2024. There were no chances of any unfortunate incident vis-à-vis Rail operations on the said bridge. The bridge is safe for train operations," the statement issued here said.
It is further stated that the foundation of the bridge reported in media which got washed away was actually the redundant cladding over the slope. This redundant cladding got broken and fell into river on 21.07.25 due to heavy flow on account of flash flood.
As per the suggestions from IIT Roorkee, protection work of the bridge is undergoing and the redundant cladding over the slope was to be dismantled. This redundant cladding did not affect safety in train operations, the statement added.
"On 22.07.25, Chief Bridge Engineer inspected the Chakki Railway Bridge, which experienced flash floods the previous day. The site is being closely monitored round-the-clock by stationary watchmen, supplemented by CCTV cameras installed at the bridge. Work on the pile foundation will resume once a dry spell is experienced and water level recedes in the river," the statement added.
