JMC finalises civic activity plan for National event

Commissioner reviews preparations, announces Green-Clean City initiatives

JAMMU: A high-level review meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, to finalize preparations for the Independence Day celebrations and plan various civic activities in the city.

The meeting decided that the JMC will organize a series of events featuring public awareness, environmental conservation and community participation. A major highlight of the celebrations will be a citywide plantation campaign aimed at enhancing green spaces across Jammu. The drive will involve planting trees in parks, roadside areas, government institutions, and other public spaces to promote a sustainable and eco-friendly urban environment.

To further promote cleanliness and civic responsibility, a cleanliness-themed marathon will also be organized. The event will encourage citizen involvement and spread awareness on keeping the city clean, in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Additionally, a range of community-level awareness programs will be conducted, covering topics such as solid waste management, water conservation, animal welfare, floriculture, sanitation, and digital initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner emphasized that Independence Day is not only a celebration of national pride but also an opportunity to reflect on civic duties and contribute to the city's development.

Senior officials from various departments presented their plans and suggestions during the meeting. All departments were directed to ensure close coordination for the smooth execution of the planned events. The Commissioner urged all stakeholders and residents to participate actively in the upcoming initiatives to make Jammu cleaner, greener, and more citizen-centric.

Among others, Joint Commissioner Revenue and Enforcement Subah Mehta, Joint Commissioner Health and Sanitation Abdul Sattar, Joint Commissioner (A) Rajiv Khajuria, Joint Commissioner (W) Firdous Ahmed Qazi, Deputy Commissioner (South) Lal Chand, Chief Accounts Officer Sandeep Singh, Superintending Engineer Jal Shakti Sunil Gandotra, Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer Dr. Jaswant Singh, Animal Welfare Officer Dr. Gaurav Chaudhary, Assistant Floriculture Officer Dr. Rabia Khan, Chief Informatics Officer Ankush Kapoor, IEC Incharges Dr. Divya Sharma and Dr. Priyanka Malhotra, Executive Engineer Projects Lokesh Gupta, Executive Engineer Electric Simar Pal Singh, Chief Transport Officers Dharamvir Singh and Talat Mahmood Khan and other senior officers of JMC attended the meeting.
