BUDGAM: As part of the ongoing district-wide efforts to combat substance abuse, a series of impactful Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns were today conducted at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Chadoora, Government Middle School (GMS) Bon Makhama, and GMS Chewdara under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The campaign aimed at sensitising students, staff, and the broader community about the ill effects of drug abuse and the urgent need for a drug-free society. The IEC drive included interactive awareness sessions, group discussions, motivational talks, and the display of educational materials designed to engage young minds and empower them with knowledge to resist substance use.

Officers from the district administration, field staff of the Social Welfare department, teachers, and local volunteers actively participated in the campaign. Resource persons highlighted the legal, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction, while encouraging youth to act as ambassadors of change in their communities.

These campaigns are part of a series of targeted interventions being rolled out across the district in line with the NCORD (Narco Coordination) Committee recommendations, which emphasises grassroots action, multi-stakeholder coordination, and sustained follow-up mechanisms to break the drug supply and demand chain.

District administration has reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance against drug abuse and has urged parents, teachers, and civil society to remain vigilant and supportive of young individuals vulnerable to addiction.
