Extensive outreach drives held across Budgam to curb substance abuse

BUDGAM: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a series of impactful Information, Education & Communication (IEC) campaigns were organised today across several locations in district Budgam to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free lifestyle, especially among the youth.
The awareness programmes were conducted at various educational and community locations including Government Middle School Kralpora, Government Higher Secondary School Wathora, Government High School Ompora etc.
The campaigns witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, civil society members, and representatives from key departments such as Health, Education, Social Welfare, and local Municipal Committees.
Key activities included awareness sessions on psychological, health, and social impacts of substance abuse, Anti-drug pledge ceremonies led by school faculty and administration, rallies and street awareness marches involving students and youth volunteers, door-to-door campaigns by volunteers and health workers in several locations including Kanihama and Narbal, Interactive sessions, including group discussions, quizzes, and distribution of educational material.
Speakers at the events highlighted the growing menace of drug addiction among adolescents, emphasized early identification and intervention, and elaborated on available counselling and rehabilitation services. The importance of collective efforts by communities, schools, and families in tackling this challenge was underscored.
These IEC campaigns were aimed at equipping the youth with essential knowledge to resist substance abuse and to encourage them to be champions of change in their communities. The initiative reaffirmed the district's ongoing commitment to a Nasha Mukt Budgam, Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir, and a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
