Assistive Devices Distribution Camp conducted for PwDs, Senior Citizens at Kishtwar

KISHTWAR: The District Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), organised an aid distribution camp today under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) scheme and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna (RVY).

The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Sharma in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Pawan Kotwal.

The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Zubair Ahmed Lone.

A total of 82 beneficiaries identified during the assessment camps were provided various assistive devices. These included adult and pediatric wheelchairs, CP chairs, hearing aids, MSIED kits, smart canes, smartphones for visually impaired individuals, Daisy players, Braille kits, crutches, walking sticks, rollators, calipers, artificial limbs, knee braces, lumbo sacral belts and silicon foam cushions.

The aim of the initiative is to provide durable, high-quality and scientifically manufactured prosthetic aids and appliances to persons with disabilities and senior citizens, thereby promoting their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation.

The distribution of assistive devices also seeks to enhance the economic potential and independent functioning of the beneficiaries while mitigating the impact of disabilities and preventing secondary disabilities.

The event was coordinated by Chetna Sharma, TSWO and attended by audiologist Tushar Chowdhary along with a team from ALIMCO, Mohali.

Similar camps are planned in other parts of the district, including Chatroo, Paddar, Thakrie and Drabshalla in the coming days.
