5-day Civil Defence Training for retired Ex-Servicemen commences at Doda

DODA: A five-day Civil Defence Basic Training Course for retired ex-servicemen of district Doda commenced today at the SDRF Complex, Doda.

The programme is being organised in collaboration with the SDRF team and the Zila Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO) Doda, under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh and the supervision of the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Wg Cdr Tirath Singh ((Retd.)

The training is conducted under the close supervision of Dy. Superintendent of Police (DAR) cum I/C Deputy Controller, Civil Defence & SDRF Component, Doda.

On the first day, SDRF instructors delivered informative lectures on key topics including the history and relevance of civil defence, twelve civil defence services (with a focus on the wardens' service) and essential life-saving techniques such as CPR during cardiac arrest.

The initiative aims to strengthen the preparedness, response capacity and coordination of retired ex-servicemen to assist during civil emergencies, natural or man-made disasters and community resilience efforts. The participants were also sensitised to their crucial role in supporting and reinforcing the local civil defence framework.

Over the next four days, the training programme will feature interactive sessions, hands-on practical drills and live demonstrations covering areas such as fire safety and suppression, search and rescue operations, first aid and casualty evacuation, crowd management, disaster preparedness planning and communication during crises.

Such programmes not only leverage the discipline, skills, and experience of retired ex-servicemen but also help build a pool of trained volunteers who can respond effectively during calamities. The training also fosters a spirit of volunteerism and strengthens coordination between civil defence agencies and the community.

Retired participants expressed enthusiasm and commitment to utilise the skills gained to continue serving society in times of need.
