Poonch unites against drug abuse: Awareness event marks International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking

POONCH: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with fervor and a strong message of awareness in Poonch on Wednesday. The event was held in the Conference Hall of Dak Bungalow, drawing the attention of a cross-section of society to the growing challenge posed by drug abuse and its associated impacts.
Chief Guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tahir Mustafa Malik, presided over the program and emphasized the vital role of community participation and awareness in the campaign against the menace of drugs.
District Social Welfare Officer Khalil A. Banday explained the significance and objectives of the day, highlighting the urgent need to sensitize the masses about the dangers posed by drugs and to foster a sense of responsibility within the community.
Representatives from the Health Department, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sports Department, and Police also spoke on the occasion, focusing on the importance of inter‑departmental cooperation in tackling the issue of drug abuse effectively.
The event witnessed active participation from civil society representatives, including Muhammad Fareed Malik, Surjan Singh, and Sarfraz Mir, who shared their thoughts and stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts and enhanced awareness to eradicate the threat of drugs from society.
The program concluded with a consensus on intensifying preventive measures, extending support to those affected by drug abuse, and making Poonch a safer, healthier, and drug‑free district.
After the program, a rally led by ADC Tahir Mustafa Malik was taken out to spread the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat. The rally, comprising hundreds of individuals, started from the Dak Bungalow and culminated at the Sports Stadium, with joining to mark the occasion.
