DC Reasi emphasises full readiness for flood, landslide emergency ahead of Monsoon

REASI: In view of the approaching monsoon season and the potential risk of floods and landslides, Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik chaired a high-level meeting to review the district's emergency preparedness and response mechanisms.

The DC directed all Executive Engineers (XENs) to identify vulnerable spots within their jurisdictions and prepare detailed action plans to address any eventualities. She stressed the need for maintaining additional standby machinery in every subdivision to ensure immediate clearance of roads blocked due to heavy rains or landslides.

To enhance coordination, the Deputy Commissioner instructed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to remain in regular contact with the concerned XENs and OC GREF. She underscored the importance of inter-departmental synergy for effective disaster management.

Further, emphasis was laid on advance measures to avoid interruption of essential services, particularly power and water supply to save people from undue hardships. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was directed to ensure the availability of adequate medical staff, ambulances and medicine stocks to handle emergency health situations efficiently.

To strengthen communication and monitoring, a central control room will be established at the District Headquarters. The DC also instructed SDMs to set up and operationalize similar control rooms in their respective subdivisions.

Further, the police department was asked to keep its quick response teams (QRTs) on high alert. The Deputy Commissioner proposed refresher training for tehsil-level QRTs, including Aapda Mitras to enhance their preparedness. Tehsildars were directed to prepare and submit timely damage reports to the office of the ADC Reasi for swift relief and rehabilitation actions.

Concluding the meeting, DC Nidhi Malik reiterated the administration's unwavering commitment to public safety and disaster readiness. ADC Reasi Rakesh Kumar, CPO Narinder Kumar, XENs, CMO, DIO, Tehsildars and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
