Jammu-Srinagar highway reopens for traffic after three-hour closure

RAMBAN: Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was halted for nearly three hours on Monday morning due to landslides and mudslides triggered by overnight rains in the Ramban district.

According to traffic officials, landslides occurred at Mehad and T2 Maroog in the Ramban sector in the early hours, blocking both sides of the strategic highway that connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.

Restoration work was launched immediately, and road clearance operations were carried out despite challenging weather conditions. By 9:30 AM, the highway was cleared for traffic and stranded vehicles were allowed to move, officials confirmed.

Authorities have advised commuters to stay updated on weather and traffic advisories before embarking on the journey, as the highway remains vulnerable to frequent disruptions during the rainy season.
