GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that PM Narendra Modi mentioning the state's turnaround in recent years during a speech in Odisha indicates the impact this northeastern state has in the national perspective.
He thanked Modi for his personal inclination towards the state, which has led it to progress on the path of becoming one of the top states in the country.
"During his speech in Bhubaneswar on 20.06.2025, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji spoke on Assam's turnaround in the last few years. In a national perspective, this speaks volumes about the impact Assam is having and this is just the beginning," Sarma said in a post on X.
"We are humbled by this compliment. This transformation would not have been possible without his personal inclination towards developing Assam as one of the leading states of India," the chief minister said, expressing his gratitude.
The prime minister, in his speech, cited the example of Assam and its changed scenario.
He said that till a decade back, the "situation was very bad" here.
"Only instability, insurgency, violence could be seen. But today, Assam is marching in a new path of development," Modi maintained.
He added that the decades-old insurgency problem has been resolved and the state is now leaving behind other states in many parameters.
