Drug awareness programme held at SS Jain Sabha

JAMMU: A drug awareness programme was organised by the District Administration Jammu at SS Jain Sabha today, where over 200 students from VMC coaching institute participated.

The event aimed at sensitising the youth about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging them to make healthy life choices.

As the chief guest at the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal, addressed the students and urged them to focus their energy on productive and creative pursuits. She said that drug addiction poses a serious risk to society and that awareness and self-discipline are key to prevention. "Say no to drugs and yes to your goals," she told the students. She also stressed the importance of community involvement, noting that addiction can affect any family and that early awareness is essential.

Dr Akhil Menia spoke about the physical and mental health consequences of substance abuse. He warned students against falling prey to peer pressure and highlighted the need for open conversations on addiction.

A nukkad natak was performed by actors of JKSPYM SLCA, depicting the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of making informed choices. A cultural performance by artists from the Cultural Wing of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu, also formed part of the programme.

SHO Police Station Trikuta Nagar also attended the programme and assured continued support of the police in efforts to curb drug-related activities.

Jain Mahasadhavi Shri Kiran Ji Maharaj was present at the event and encouraged the youth to maintain self-control and focus on their moral responsibilities. Sandeep Jain, representing the Jain Temple Management Committee, was also present. The event concluded with students and officials taking a pledge to stay away from drugs and promote a healthy lifestyle in their communities.
