ANANTNAG: An awareness workshop under the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, also known as the ‘One District One Product' (ODOP) initiative, was organised today at Bijbehara Block in Anantnag district.
The event, conducted by the District Nodal Agency- Deputy Director, Fisheries Anantnag in collaboration with other allied line departments, as part of the ongoing ODOP initiative, aimed to inform and encourage students, local entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), and small-scale food processors to leverage the benefits of the PMFME scheme, launched under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Experts from the Agriculture, Horticulture, School Education, and Fisheries departments briefed the participants about the PMFME scheme and other government initiatives offering employment generation and entrepreneurship opportunities.
During the camp, over 30 participants registered on the spot. Students from Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Bijbehara, also took part and expressed interest in establishing or upgrading micro food processing units in the future.
This event marked the third in a series of five awareness programs scheduled in the district, in line with the district's objective of promoting the PMFME initiative across all blocks.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director Fisheries Anantnag, said that the PMFME scheme is designed to formalise and strengthen the unorganised micro food processing sector in India by providing financial, technical, and business support to both existing and new enterprises.
"In our district, we have already established more than 50 small-scale food processing enterprises with credit linkage of over Rs.3 crore, and more than five units with credit linkage exceeding Rs.0.50 crore in this constituency alone," he said.
He further stated that by organising such awareness workshops and camps, district administration aims to empower local entrepreneurs and contribute meaningfully to the region's economic development.
