DLSA Bandipora observes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

BANDIPORA: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, in coordination with the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) and in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department Bandipora today observed the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at the Senior Citizen Home Bandipora.

The programme was held under the supervision of Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Bandipora.

The objective of this observance is to raise awareness about the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment faced by older adults, and to promote dignity, respect, and protection for senior citizens. The theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2025 is "Addressing Abuse of Older Adults in Long Term Care Facilities: Through Data and Action".

Javaid Iqbal Lone, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel of DLSA Bandipora, emphasized the significance of observing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. He raised awareness about the availability of legal aid services for senior citizens and explained the functioning of the NALSA Helpline 15100, a toll-free number that provides free legal aid assistance across the country.

He also discussed the mental health issues faced by elderly persons and emphasized the importance of timely psychiatric support and emotional care.

An official from District Social Welfare Office Bandipora elaborated on the various welfare schemes and support systems available for the senior citizens.

The observation of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Bandipora highlights the commitment of DLSA and its collaborating partners to promote the dignity and well-being of senior citizens.
