DLSA Budgam organizes awareness programme to address stigma associated with Domestic Violence

BUDGAM: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam organized an awareness programme on ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence' and ‘NALSA Legal Aid Helpline 15100' at Legal Literacy Club of Boys Higher Secondary School Khan Sahib, Budgam today.
The event was conducted under the supervision of O.P Bhagat, Chairman DLSA, Budgam and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam.
Programme aimed to raise awareness regarding remedies available for aggrieved women under the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005' and ‘Legal Services Authority Act, 1987' besides to provide legal awareness on eliminating the stigma associated with survivors of domestic violence, ensuring that they are not blamed or marginalized within communities.
Resource persons on the occasion Khan Muneer Asalam (HOD Physical Education) Boys Higher Secondary School Khan Sahib, Budgam & PLV Mehraj-ud-din-Shah threw light on the subject.
Participants were also apprised regarding the NALSA legal Aid Helpline number 15100, which serves as a nationwide toll free number for instant access to free legal aid services, besides the importance of maintaining menstrual hygiene, sexual & reproductive health in order to build a more informed, compassionate and supportive society.
The event witnessed the huge participation of students, members of legal literacy club, teachers, PLVs and the local women from the area.
Programme concluded with an interactive session where queries from the participants were redressed by the resource persons, and pamphlets were also distributed.
