BARAMULLA: In view of the forthcoming holy month of Muharram, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, accompanied by SDM Pattan, today visited Imam-bara Goom Ahmadpora to take stock of the arrangements and assess the preparedness of line departments for the smooth conduct of religious gatherings.
During the visit, DC held a detailed interaction with members of the Intizamiya Committee and local residents. Several key public issues and demands were raised, primarily related to infrastructure and essential services.
The residents demanded blacktopping of link roads leading to the Imam-bara, installation of street lights and solar-powered lighting systems, provision of a DG set for uninterrupted power supply, and improvements in the drinking water supply system.
A major concern highlighted by the community was the presence of poplar trees in the vicinity of the Imam-bara, which they said posed a threat to public safety during the large congregational events. Taking note of this, the DC issued on-spot directions to the concerned departments to initiate immediate cutting of the trees before Muharram.
The residents also raised concerns about the ongoing power curtailment schedule, stating that it was causing inconvenience, particularly in relation to agricultural activities. They appealed for a revision in the curtailment plan to better suit local needs.
Responding to the concerns, DC assured the gathering that all genuine demands will be addressed on priority. He emphasized that the district administration is committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and well-facilitated environment for Muharram observances.
Minga Sherpa urged all departments to work in close coordination and ensure timely execution of all required arrangements, underlining the administration's dedication to public welfare and smooth conduct of religious events.
