DC Poonch chairs NCORD meeting
Stresses coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse

POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting of the District level Committee under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review drug control measures and assess progress of enforcement departments in curbing the menace in the district.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, Assistant Superintendent of Police, District Social Welfare Officer, Chief Medical Officers, Principals of Degree Colleges, CID officials, Tehsildars and officers from other departments
The Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed review with Tehsildars presenting detailed reports on anti-narcotic activities in their respective tehsils. The Tehsildars briefed that all chemist shops have switched to computerized billing and installed CCTV cameras, ensuring better monitoring.
The Assistant Commissioner Panchayats (ACP) informed that anti-drug campaigns have already been initiated in Panchayats, witnessing active public participation.
Heads of colleges and schools shared details of awareness programs and preventive activities being conducted in educational institutions, while the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provided updates on counseling services, medical interventions and sensitization drives being carried out through health institutions.
Emphasizing the need for a permanent rehabilitation facility, the DC directed revenue authorities to expedite identification of suitable land near Chandak for the construction of a Drug De-Addiction Centre.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and Tehsildars were asked to take measures for timely destruction of cannabis. He also stressed on sustained surveillance and deterrence measures across the district.
The Senior Superintendent of Police presented an overview of recent enforcement actions and emphasized the need for continued inter departmental coordination to achieve the goal of a drug free Poonch.
