Plantation, cleanliness drives, awareness seminars mark World Environment Day celebration across Jammu Division

JAMMU: To mark World Environment Day, the district administrations, government departments, educational institutions and community organizations across Jammu Division organized a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
The events focused on this year's theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution' and reinforced the collective responsibility towards protecting and preserving the environment.
At Samba: Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma flagged off a marathon from the DC Office Complex to the Gujjar-Bakarwal Hostel to mark the day. A large number of field staff from the Youth Services and Sports Department enthusiastically participated in the run, spreading the message of "One Earth, One Future."
The marathon served as a vibrant reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the planet and inspired participants to become ambassadors of change in their communities.
At Poonch: The District Administration organised an awareness event at DIET campus. Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal planted a Chinar tree in the DIET campus, symbolising the district's commitment to green and sustainable growth. He then took a round of students' painting exhibitions depicting environmental themes. He appreciated the creativity and concern shown by the young participants.
At Ramban: The District Administration Ramban, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with a series of impactful activities across the district.
In a united call for environmental conservation, a multi-departmental rally, cleanliness drive, and plantation programme were successfully organized in Ramban town.
At Banihal, the DFO Ankit Sinha spearheaded multiple events with active participation from the judiciary, Indian Army, students, teachers, and locals. A special plantation drive was held at the Banihal Court Complex
Awareness, plantation and cleanliness drives were also organized in educational institutions in which forest officials, students and locals actively participated.
At Doda: A students' rally along with a plantation-cum-cleanliness drive was organized today at Forest Complex Doda under the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution Globally." Deputy Commissioner along with the Conservator of Forests, Chenab Circle and Programme Officer ICDS, jointly flagged off the rally, which aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits.
A pledge-taking ceremony followed, where all attendees, including forest officials, and the general public, pledged to adopt sustainable, eco-friendly habits, avoid single-use plastics, and ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
Tehsil Legal Services Committee Doda also conducted an environmental awareness camp. During the camp, legal experts and officers sensitized the public about environmental laws, citizens' duties toward nature, and the legal consequences of environmental violations.
The event also featured a plantation drive at Forest Complex, where the DC Doda along with forest officers and other dignitaries, planted saplings to promote green cover and sustainability.
At Bhaderwah, a massive plantation drive was conducted today at the picturesque Jai Valley Bhaderwah. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior officials, local administration, and environmental activists, showcasing a united commitment to protecting and preserving the region's natural beauty. The drive was joined by Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Dhananter Singh Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and other officers.
AT UDHAMPUR: Department of Youth Services & Sports, Udhampur, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department organized an awareness rally to mark World Environment Day 2025.
IAS Probationer Seerat Baji flagged off the rally here from Mini Stadium in the presence of District Information Officer, Neeraj Bhargav, District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta and District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Ramesh Chander Mishra.
Students and staff from various educational institutions, along with officials from line departments participated. The rally passed through prominent locations of the town including Matador stand, Bus stand, Ramnagar chowk and Gole Market and finally culminated at Mini Stadium Udhampur.
At Block Ghat-Doda a series of engaging activities brought together students, officials and local residents in a united effort for environmental awareness.
A plantation drive was also held at various public locations as part of the celebrations. Saplings were planted by students and officials, reinforcing the message of reforestation and ecological balance.
At Jammu: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized a series of impactful programs to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
The event commenced with the formation of a human chain on bridge at Gujjar Nagar over Tawi River which was ceremonially flagged off by MLA Jammu East, Yudhvir Sethi, along with Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, and JMC Commissioner, Dr. Devansh Yadav.
The chain, comprising students, sanitation champions and workers, JMC officials and enthusiastic citizens, raised slogans to spread awareness on environmental conservation.
The human chain culminated at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, where an oath-taking ceremony was conducted, reaffirming the commitment to cleanliness and sustainable living and not to throw garbage in water bodies. The momentum continued with a tree plantation drive, where dignitaries, students, and citizens planted various types of saplings to contribute to a greener future.
Agriculture Department Jammu: The Agriculture Department Jammu, in conversation with members of FICCI FLO, celebrated World Environment Day by planting 100 saplings within the premises of the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo, Jammu.
The plantation drive was led by Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen who was joined by Chairperson FICCI FLO, Arti Chowdhary, Chairman, JK Dairy Cooperative Federation & UNATI Multi State, Vikrant Dogra, as well as other dignitaries, senior officers of the department and members of FICCI FLO.
J&K Pollution Control Committee: J&K Pollution Control committee celebrated World Environment Day across all the districts of UT of Jammu and Kashmir. In the Districts, the program was organized by the concerned Divisional Officers.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Gol, New Delhi had advised all the States and UTs of the country to launch a pre-campaign for mobilization of States/UT level stakeholders including concerned departments from June 22, 2025 to June 5, 2025.
On the instructions and advice of Commissioner / Secretary to Government, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, the J&K Pollution Control Committee launched a pre-campaign for mobilization and to outreach the stakeholders and organized clean-up drives, workshops/webinars plantation drives during the pre-campaign.
During the two week pre-campaign, more than 210 events were held featuring workshops/symposium/webinar and clean-up drives. Plantation drives were conducted in the schools, open areas, parks, industrial areas and near water bodies. Street plays were staged in the commercial areas in all the Districts of UT of Jammu and Kashmir to promote environmental sustainability.
At the winter capital Jammu, "a clean-up and plantation drive", led by Ghansham Singh, Member Secretary J&K PCC, was conducted along the River Tawi with the involvement of Officers/Officials of J&K PCC. Environmental Engineers, Scientists and staff of other wings also participated.
Later, the Officers of J&K Pollution Control Committee, J&K Forest Development Corporation and Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing took a pledge in the Parivesh Bhawan, Transport Nagar, Narwal, Jammu to keep the environment clean and green.
AYUSH AND AROGYA BHARTI J&K: The Directorate of Ayush J&K and Arogya Bharti J&K conducted a collaborated Harit Yoga activity at Pacca Talab Park Sarwal Jammu in which more than 325 participants participated.
Member Legislative Assembly Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi presided over the program as chief guest in the program and led the Yoga session in the program. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Nuzhat Bashir Shah, Director Ayush J&K
Nowshera Forest Division: A series of plantation drives were organized in Nowshera Forest Division across several Educational Institutions. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunderbani Ramkesh Sharma , Range Forest Officer Sunderbani Arif Mirza, Station House officer, Sunderbani Rajeev Kumar, Principal, Staff, Students and Forest personals participated with plantation of saplings of different medicinal and ornamental species inside school premises.
Mission Shakti SWD: A special plantation drive was organized at the Bana-Chak Bishnah Health Centre by Mission Shakti District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Social Welfare Department. In a heartwarming initiative, saplings were planted in the name of newborn baby girls, with their proud parents participating alongside ASHA workers and the dedicated health centre staff & Officials of Mission Shakti DHEW Jammu .
J&K Forest Research Institute Jammu campus organized a series of activities to mark World Environment Day, 2025 with a focus on raising awareness about plastic pollution.
Cooperative Department, J&K: The Cooperative Department, Jammu & Kashmir organized a tree plantation drive at the Office Complex of the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, J&K. The event was held under the aegis of the nationwide campaign "Ek Ped Maa Ka Naam".
Numerous saplings were planted by the officers and staff, each tree dedicated in the name of one's mothers - a powerful gesture that reinforced both personal connection and environmental responsibility.
Department of Floriculture, Parks & Gardens, Jammu: marked World Environment Day with a series of impactful plantation drives across various parks and gardens across the Jammu Division. The celebrations were conducted under the leadership of Ms. Vivek Sharma, Director General, Floriculture, Parks & Gardens.
The plantation drives saw the enthusiastic participation of key departmental officials, including Joint Director Vikrant Sharma, Floriculture Officer Jammu Sunil Singh, Floriculture Officer (HQ) Ishtiaq Ahmad Malik, Assistant Floriculture Officers, staff members, and park visitors.
Department of Wildlife Protection: An impressive programme was organized by the Department of Wildlife Protection at Patnitop in collaboration with Patnitop Development Authority (PDA), JK Pollution Control Committee (PCC) Udhampur and allied sister wings of the Forest Department.
Students and staff of Government Higher Secondary School, Garhi enthusiastically participated in the celebration. The event aimed to sensitize young minds about the importance of environmental conservation and the role of every individual in protecting nature.
Government Higher Secondary School Gandoh: organised a colorful event focused on the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution."
The function, presided over by Principal Mohammad Ayub Sheikh, brought together students, faculty members and prominent community figures to raise awareness about the urgent need for environmental protection.
The prominent activities included debates, painting and slogan writing competitions allowing students from various classes to showcase their creativity and passion for environmental issues.
GDC Vijaypur: Department of Environmental Sciences and EcoClub (Green Warriors) GDC Vijaypur organized a lecture on "Beating Plastic Pollution" under the guidance of Principal of the college, Dr. Ashu Vashisht. The event aimed to raise awareness among students, faculty, and the wider community about the urgent need to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices.
PSPS GCW Gandhinagar: The cadets of 8th J&K Girls Battalion NCC of GCW Gandhinagar celebrated World Environment Day focusing on the theme, "Beat the Plastic Pollution."
As many as 51 cadets actively participated in a series of activities designed to raise awareness and inspire action toward environmental conservation. The day commenced with a Declamation Contest on the theme "Beat the Plastic Pollution," where cadets articulated their thoughts with passion and conviction. Their powerful speeches highlighted the harmful effects of plastic on ecosystems and proposed viable alternatives to reduce plastic dependency.
To give a green touch to the occasion, a plantation drive was also organized, focusing on medicinal plants and indigenous tree saplings.
GCET Jammu: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with a vibrant plantation drive and an engaging awareness programme in collaboration with ESCS GREEN Pvt. Ltd. and the NSS unit of GCET.
A key highlight of the event was the plantation of around 40 species of trees across the GCET campus. Faculty and students took part enthusiastically in this green initiative aimed at enhancing the campus's biodiversity and promoting sustainable living.
GDC Kishtwar: Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Kiru Hydro Electric Project, CVPPL, DIPR & DD News, commemorated World Environment Day 2025 with a compelling theatrical performance titled "Meri Dharti", aimed at raising awareness about environmental degradation and the urgent need for action.
The moving theatrical tribute gave voice to Earth and illustrated the harmful effects of human negligence on the environment.
As recognition of their efforts, the student performers were awarded a cash prize of ₹20,000 and certificates of appreciation. Jute bags were also distributed to all participants, promoting eco-friendly practices.
GCW Parade: In connection with the celebration of World Environment Day, NSS Volunteers of GCW Parade Ground Jammu joined the Jammu Municipality Corporation team to spread awareness through plantation drives and an awareness rally in the heart of Jammu City.
