Seminar on 'Scope of Entrepreneurship in Medicinal Plant Cultivation' held at Bandipora

BANDIPORA: In a significant step towards promoting sustainable livelihoods and exploring alternative sources of income, Department of Ayush, J&K, on Saturday, organized a day-long seminar on ‘Scope of Entrepreneurship in Cultivation of Medicinal Plants' at the Mini Secretariat, Bandipora.
The seminar was aimed at creating awareness among farmers, youth, and entrepreneurs about the potential of medicinal plant cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir's unique agro-climatic conditions.
The event was organized under the aegis of the State Medicinal Plants Board, Directorate of Ayush J&K, in collaboration with the District Ayush Office Bandipora.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of medicinal plant farming and termed it a sustainable and promising livelihood option, especially for unemployed youth and small farmers.
He assured participants that the district administration will provide full support in facilitating access to government schemes, financial aid, and technical training for those interested in this sector.
During the seminar, Technical Officer, State Medicinal Plants Board, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the various schemes, incentives, and technical support available to aspiring entrepreneurs under the board's initiatives. His session offered valuable insights into the cultivation, processing, and marketing of medicinal plants.
During the event, other dignitaries also shared their views, including Chief Horticulture Officer, District Nodal Officer Ayush Bandipora, Associate Professor, SKUAST Kashmir, District Nodal Officer and Medicinal Plants.
The seminar witnessed active participation from medical officers, farmers, NGOs, students, and unemployed youth, reflecting a growing interest in exploring alternative livelihoods.
On the occasion, a book titled ‘NCD Module for Ayush Medical Officers' was also released, marking a step forward in enhancing capacity-building for Ayush professionals.
