Civil defence exercise slated on Thursday postponed

JAMMU: The second Civil Defence mock drill, "Operational Shield", scheduled to be held across the four Border States and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat has been postponed due to the "administrative reasons"

"It is hereby intimated that the Civil Defence Exercise ‘Operation Shield', which was planned to be held on May 29, 2025 is hereby postponed due to administrative reasons. It is requested that necessary directions to all the Controllers of Civil Defence and other stakeholders, may be issued accordingly," read an official communication.

It added that the next dates for the exercise shall be issued subsequently.

It is important to mention here that the postponed second Civil Defence drill was intended to plug critical gaps in Civil Defence preparedness identified during the first such exercise held on May 7, where shortcomings in coordination, evacuation planning, and communication systems had surfaced.
