GDC Vijaypur hosts seminar on Financial Literacy

SAMBA: NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur, in collaboration with Reserve Bank of India, Jammu hosted a seminar on Financial Literacy under the supervision and guidance of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Ashu Vashisht.

More than 50 college students participated in the activity with great enthusiasm, fervour and zeal. The event commenced with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Kumar Bhagat, HOD Sociology.

The first technical session on the topic ‘Reserve Bank of India and its Role' was deliberated upon by Manager of RBI, Jammu Amandeep Singh. He briefed the students regarding financial literacy as ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting and investing. He further added that if one is financially illiterate, then they can fall prey to many pitfalls, such as being more likely to accumulate unsustainable debt burdens, either through poor spending decisions or a lack of long-term preparation. "This, in turn, can lead to poor credit, bankruptcy, housing foreclosure, and other negative consequences" he added.

The second technical session on Importance of Digital Banking was initiated by Assistant Manager, RBI, Jammu Piyush Sharma. He interacted one to one with the students regarding banking facilities and the importance of digital banking.

The third technical session included a question-answer series initiated by the speakers of the event.

The seminar ended up with the open quiz where all the students were given the opportunity to answer the questions. The winners of the seminar were rewarded with the bags. Refreshments were distributed to all the participants of the event.

The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Anita Jamwal (H.O.D. Political Science). The event was coordinated by Prof. Mamta Gupta (H.O.D. Commerce), Prof. Anita Jamwal (H.O.D. Political Science), Dr Anoop Kumar Bhagat (H.O.D. Sociology), Dr. Arti Sharma (H.O.D. Environmental Sciences), Dr. Manoj Heer (H.O.D. Dogri), Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (H.O.D. English), Prof. Meetu Sharma (H.O.D. Geography) and co-coordinated by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Dr Priya Devi and Prof. Sonia Devi.
