DLSA Srinagar organises awareness programme on LSUM

SRINAGAR: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in collaboration with Vitasta Law College, Srinagar, organized an awareness programme today on the legal provisions relating to mental illness and persons with intellectual disabilities (LSUM).
The event aimed to sensitize future legal professionals and the academic community about the legal challenges and support mechanisms available for vulnerable sections of society.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, besides attended by Rakib Zia, Principal of Vitasta Law College; Fatima Shah and Nosheen Ismail, Assistant Professors; Advocate Suhaila Ali, Panel Lawyer of DLSA Srinagar & Para Legal Volunteers of the Authority and the Law Students of the Vitasta Law College.
Advocate Laila Khalid, who served as the resource person, conducted an informative session covering crucial legal safeguards and rights of individuals affected by mental illness and intellectual disabilities.
Students namely Shabnam Basheer, Tabiyat Mushtaq, and Midhat from the 4th and 6th semesters also addressed the gathering.
The session concluded with an engaging interactive Q&A segment, fostering meaningful dialogue between the students, faculty, and the resource person.
DLSA Srinagar reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar initiatives in the future to build a legally aware and inclusive society.
