IEI celebrated Regional Language Promotion Day

JAMMU: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated "Regional Language Promotion Day at Institutional Complex, Jammu.
The function was attended by Engineers from various Departments, Organizations and Senior Engineers along with Members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu Local Centre.
On this occasion, Padma Shri Prof. Lalit Mangotra, President, Dogri Sanstha, Jammu was the Chief Guest and Er. Vageesh Sharma, President, Prime Association of Radio and Doordarshan Approved Drama Artists & A Dogri Writer was the Keynote Speaker whereas Er. Anil Verma, FIE; Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre presided over the function.
At the outset, Er. Anil Verma, FIE presented the Welcome Address and said that there are 8324 languages in the world according to UNESCO documented by the Governments. However, the majority of them are getting endangered because of globalization and societal changes.
He informed the audience that the year 2025 marks the Silver Jubilee of International Mother Tongue Day and this year's objective is to promote linguistic diversity, multilingual education and preservation of endangered languages.
He made a special mention of Dogri language and appealed to all the people of this region to speak & make communication with Dogri language in all spheres of life so that it does not get extinct because of its decreased use year after year.
It was followed by Keynote Address by Er. Vageesh Sharma. In his address he stressed upon the importance of using mother tongue in our day-to-day interaction at home as well as in the work place. He also highlighted the growth journey of Dogri language from 1974 onwards since inception of Dogri Sanstha Jammu & its introduction in academic courses of Jammu University.
Padma Shri Prof. Lalit Mangotra, Chief Guest dwelt upon the importance of regional languages in evolution of ethnicity, culture and civilization identity of the societies.
Prof. Mangotra elucidated upon the fact that regional languages are repositories of traditional knowledge, folklore, history & their promotion helps to maintain cultural diversity and ensures that future generations remain connected to their roots.
He further stressed upon the need to consolidate, strengthen, popularize and modernize the Dogri Language and Literature, so that it progresses in tandem with other Indian Languages.
Er. Avneet Gupta, MIE, Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu Local Centre presented the Vote of Thanks to the august gathering and media personnel for active participation
