GDC Ramban hosts study tour for students to SKUAST Jammu

RAMBAN: Institution Innovation Counsel (IIC) of Government Degree College Ramban organized a one day study tour for students to the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu.

The study tour was organised under the overall supervision of Prof. Principal of the college Archana Kaul and in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC) Udhampur and coordinated by Shruti Khanna (District Coordinator from JKSTIC, Udhampur) and Dr. Rabinder Singh Sudan (Coordinator, Campus visit committee from SKUAST-Jammu).

During the visit, senior Faculty Dr. Rabinder Singh briefed the students about varied activities and academic programmes of the University and motivated them to become future agri-preneurs.

Later the students visited Mushroom and Apiculture units of the University. They learnt about different types of mushrooms including the medicinal mushrooms, their round the year cultivation and nutritional importance. Dr. Moni Gupta (Faculty Department of Basic Sciences) gave a detailed presentation about the benefits of mushroom consumption and the biochemical compounds present in them.

The students also explored the Department of Sericulture where Dr. Kamlesh Bali (Director of Sericulture Division) highlighted the importance of this industry in rural development and the benefits of beekeeping as a source of income generation. The students also visited the Institute of Biotechnology where they explored the recent advancement in tissue culture technique.

A brainstorming study tour for the students with exposure to the latest advancements in entrepreneurship opportunities, the event witnessed 30 students accompanied by the faculty members - including Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Prof. Neetu Sharma, Prof. Ram Prakash, Dr. Anuj Gupta and Romika Devi.
