SVEEP Program meets Green Election initiative in District Kishtwar

KISHTWAR: In a significant convergence of environmental and electoral awareness efforts, the SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) program joined hands with the Green Election initiative in Kishtwar District in view of forthcoming Assembly Election.
A major event was organized at the SDM Office in Marwah, witnessing participation of SDM Dr. Mohd Ashraf, BDO Shashank Singh and other key officials. Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) were among the active participants, showcasing the community's engagement in the campaign.
As part of the Election Commission's ongoing initiative to plant trees at each polling station, a plantation drive was conducted at UPS Boys Nawapachi and the SDM office, emphasizing the connection between voter education and environmental conservation.
Similarly, Plantation drives were conducted at Polling stations including 43- Bachhan, 66-Mullar in AC 48-Inderwal.
In the AC 49-Kishtwar Assembly Constituency, a large-scale awareness program was held at Dadpeth, followed by a plantation drive. Various polling stations across the constituency also saw active participation in these eco-conscious activities.
The 50-Nagseni Paddar Assembly Constituency also witnessed similar SVEEP campaign activities, further strengthening the district's commitment to combining voter awareness with environmental sustainability.
It is noteworthy that the Election Commission of India (ECI) aims to plant over one lakh trees during the J&K Assembly Elections 2024 under its ‘Green Election' initiative.
In collaboration with the J&K Forest Department, the Chief Electoral office, under the close supervision of District Election Officers, are organizing plantation drives at polling stations. Over 100 trees each will be planted at identified "Green Polling Stations", while 10-15 trees will be planted at other PSs. The target completion date is September 15, 2024.
