VC CUJ launches plantation drive within Campus

JAMMU: Department of Botany, Central University of Jammu organized a Tree Plantation Drive in the university campus, ahead of the 78th Independence Day as part of University's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
The plantation drive commenced with the planting of a Neem tree by Vice Chancellor Prof.Sanjeev Jain. On the occasion, he recalled the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and urged everyone to plant a tree as a tribute to the mothers.
He was accompanied by Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CUJ. The event was spearheaded by Dr. Yogesh Kumar, Head, Department of Botany, Prof. B.S. Bhau, Dr. Ashok Kumar and Dr. Mudassir Bhat.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and staff. Various species of trees including Jamun, Neem, Guava, Mango,Goose berry etc., chosen for their adaptability to the local climate and ecological benefits, were planted.
The event was organised to highlight the significance of tree plantation in combating climate change and enhancing biodiversity by planting more than 200 trees for creating a greener and healthier campus environment for the university community.
