J&K registered voter turnout of 58 pc in Lok Sabha elections 2024: Chief Electoral Officer

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole said that the Union Territory recorded an overall voter turnout of 58 percent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as the polling came to an end here today.

He also said that a voter turn out of approximately 53 per cent was recorded in the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency polling for which was held today. With this, polling for all the five Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir came to an end.

"Today voting was held for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Lok Sabha seat. A voter turn out of approximately 53 per cent was recorded.
The highest voter turn out was recorded in Surankote assembly segment while the lowest was recorded in Kulgam Assembly segment," Pole told reporters here.

"As far as the poll percentage is concerned in Union Territory... in 1989 the poll percentage was 29.93 percent, in 1996, the poll percentage was 47.99 per cent, in 1998, it was 43.35 per cent, in 1999, it was 30.89 percentage, in 2004 it was 34.07 per cent, in 2009, it was 39. 04 per cent, in 2014 it was 49.58 percent, and in 2019 it was 44. 07 percent and it was 58 percent in 2024," he added.

This was the first general election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019,

In the fifth phase, the Baramulla parliamentary constituency of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 55.79 per cent. As per the ECI, this is the highest voter turnout recorded in the constituency in the last 8 Lok Sabha elections in 35 years.

The counting of votes for all Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere has been scheduled for June 4.
