World Earth Day celebrated at MIER College

JAMMU: MIER College of Education marked World Earth Day with an inter-college symposium on the theme "The Impact of Over Tourism on the Environment."
The event, held in a hybrid mode, drew involvement from nine colleges in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond, with a total of 17 participants.
Rupa Gupta, Jt. Director MIER, Prof. Nishta Rana, and Dr. Monika Bajaj, Heads of the School of Education and School of Social Sciences and Humanities, along with faculty members and students from SSSH, attended the symposium.
The judging panel comprised Dr. Shalini Sharma, Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Science, Govt. College of Education, Jammu, and Prof. Shradha Anand, Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Govt. Degree College, Kathua.
The first prize was won by Aayushvi Sharma from Govt. College of Education, Jammu, with a tie for the second prize between Aditi Mahajan and Naman Mansotra from MIER College of Education.
Meenakshi Sharma from Kalra College of Education secured the third position, and Sukanaya Bhau from Govt. College of Education, Jammu, received the consolation prize.
Principal Prof. Adit Gupta commended the initiative, highlighting its role in fostering environmental consciousness among future educators. He stressed the importance of sustainable practices, encouraging students to embrace eco-friendly activities for promoting environmental conservation.
The event was organized under the guidance of Suman Gupta, convener environment unit. Suman Devi, member of the environment unit, and Dr. Rita Dwivedi, convener of the co-curricular committee supervised the whole event.
