Cyber Cell prevents Rs 1.20 lakh frauds

JAMMU: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu District has prevented 4 online frauds by putting on hold Rs 1.20 lakh.

A police spokesperson said that in one case, an unidentified caller defrauded an individual of Rs 23,700 by asking him to download YONO app and make repeated transactions on his number.

In another case, he said, an amount to the tune of Rs 61,000 was withdrawn from the account of the complainant by a fraudster using Google Pay app by hacking his phone.
An amount of Rs 56000 was swindled from another individual who was asked to invest the money in a fake app by the name Alphain app, said the police spokesperson.

According to him, another complainant was cheated of Rs 20000 by a woman impersonating as an army officer.

During investigation in all the cases, the Cyber Cell acted swiftly and put on hold Rs 1,20, 200 out of total Rs 1,60,700 cheated from four individuals, he said.

In a statement, the SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar has appealed the general public to remain extra vigilant and report cyber crimes promptly to the National Helpline number 1930 or Cyber Cell DPO Jammu helpline number 8899537995.

The general public can also lodge their complaints online at and for lost/stolen mobile phones.
