GDC Marheen celebrates International Women's Day with insightful discourse and inspiring performances

KATHUA: To mark International Women's Day, Government Degree College Marheen celebrated the invaluable contributions and achievements of women worldwide.
The event, graced by the esteemed presence of the Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Anupama Gupta, commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the enlightenment brought forth by women throughout history.
The program formally started with the melodious recitation of Sarasvati Vandana by the college students, setting a harmonious tone for the day's proceedings.
Dr. Hasina Rajput delivered a captivating welcome address, shedding light on the historical significance of Women's Day and reciting a poignant poem highlighting the challenges faced by women in ancient times.
Dr. Arun Dev Singh emphasized the imperative need for a shift in societal attitudes towards women, urging for collective efforts to support and empower women to achieve their full potential in all spheres of life.
Dr. Barneet Kour addressed the pressing issue of domestic violence, emphasizing that support for women extends beyond physical safety to emotional well-being both at home and in the workplace.
Principal Dr. Anupama Gupta, in her insightful speech, explored the theme of International Women's Day 2024, 'Invest In Women: Accelerate Progress,' dubbing the day as 'Shakti Parv' - a celebration of women's strength and resilience. Dr. Gupta underscored the importance of empowering women from their very homes, believing that true empowerment of women begins at the grassroots level. She advocated for the implementation of the 3R's mantra - Recruitment, Retention, and Representation - to ensure equal opportunities for women in all spheres.
The event featured various performances and presentations, including a thought-provoking skit depicting the challenges faced by women in rural areas, a soul stirring Dogri poem recitation, and captivating dance performances by talented students.
Prof. Anoop Sharma extended formal gratitude to all attendees, acknowledging the efforts of Dr. Shallu for organizing the event seamlessly within a short timeframe.
The event also saw the participation of distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Sandeep Chaudhary, Dr. Rajni, Dr. Reemi, Prof. Preeti, and Prof. Sonia Goswamy.
