UP Govt's BIG Announcement! World Cup Hero Mohammed Shami's Village To Get Cricket Stadium: Report

LUCKNOW: India stormed into the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 final after defeating New Zealand in the semis. Mohammed Shami single-handedly destroyed the New Zealand batting line-up. Shami took seven wickets in the match.

Due to his outstanding performance throughout the world cup, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to build a cricket stadium at Shami's village.

Notably, Shami has become the highest wicket taker for India in any world cup edition. He has taken 23 wickets so far. Previously, the record was held by Zaheer Khan. The Indian pacer from UP has also taken more than 50 wickets in the World Cup. So far, Shami has bagged 51 wickets.

Shami grew up in Sahaspur village in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. He made his ODI debut against Pakistan on January 6, 2013. He never looked behind after that. The Indian pacer, known for his brilliant seam movement, soon became the main stay of the Indian bowling.

In the 100 ODI atches, Shami took 194 wickets with five times he took five or more than five wickets in an innnings. In the 64 Test Matches,Shami took 229 wickets and 24 in 23 T20s. In the world cup edition, four of the five-wicket hauls have come in world cup matches.

In the first semifinal played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 397 runs on the board with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer hitting centuries. In this match, Kohli also completed 50 centuries in ODIs surpassing Sachin Tendulkar.

While chasing, after losing two early wickets, New Zealand had an outstanding chance to upset India. However, Shami sent Kane Williamson and Tom Latham back to the pavilion. When in the final overs, the Kiwis were trying to come back into the match, the Indian acer took the important wicket of centurion Deryl Mitchell.

In the second semi-final played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Australi beat South Africa by three wickets.

The final will be played on November 19 between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
