CUJ Hosts National Environmental Youth Parliament

JAMMU: The Office of Dean Students' Welfare at Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with "Students for Development" and "Paryavaran Sanrakshan,'' successfully organised the "National Environmental Youth Parliament'' (NEYP) on the university campus.
This prestigious event, held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, aimed to foster discussions and interactions among talented individuals from various universities, with the ultimate goal of accelerating India's progress and promoting environmental sustainability.
The NEYP provided an esteemed platform for students from various departments to represent elected representatives from different states and share their perspectives on environmental concerns and challenges. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a brief introduction by Shubham Raina, the State Convener of SFD J&K.
Distinguished guest speakers at the inaugural session included Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean of Research Studies, who highlighted concerns about unsustainable waste management practices and emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility.
Prof. Richa Kothari from the Department of Environmental Studies stressed the need to apply academic insights to effect real change in environmental issues.
Dr. Ritu Bakshi, Dean of Students' Welfare, congratulated the packed auditorium for their vital role in making the event a success.
Dr. Vinay Kumar, Associate Dean of Students' Welfare, concluded the session with a formal vote of thanks.
The NEYP featured participants from various departments, who donned traditional attire representing their respective states. Their youthful perspectives on environmental concerns and challenges enriched the event's inclusive platform.
Out of 140 candidates, 32 were shortlisted for finale at university with the top 10 chosen to represent the university at the regional level, where they will compete with participants from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. T
he event was adjudicated by experts in their respective fields, including Dr. Shvetambri Jasrotia (Department of Zoology), Dr. Dinesh Kumar (Department of Environmental Studies), and Dr. Neena Gupta Vij (Department of English).
The event drew a full-house audience, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students, as well as esteemed faculty members from the university. The event proceedings were skillfully conducted by Meenakshi, a Research Scholar from the Department of Educational Studies.
In a moment of great significance, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the students' commendable efforts and extended his warmest wishes and encouragement to the 10 selected students who will represent the university at the regional level NEYP-2024.
The NEYP at Central University of Jammu showcased a commitment to environmental sustainability and the nurturing of young leaders dedicated to driving progress in India. It emphasized the power of collaboration and the academic community's dedication to addressing pressing environmental challenges.
