GDC Neeli Nallah organizes 3-day Crafts Demonstration Awareness Program

UDHAMPUR: Government Degree College Neeli Nallah Udhampur, in collaboration with Handicraft Service Centre, today organised a three Day Crafts Demonstration Awareness Programme here under District Level Gandhi Crafts and weaves Mahaotsav.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Hans Raj, principal of the College.

The programme started with a keynote address by Surinder Pal, Sr. Assistant Director, HSC Udhampur. In his address, he briefed about the importance of awareness programme.

Further, Prof. Hans Raj, Principal, in his welcome address emphasizes that Handicraft goods help to create more job opportunities in the society. Handicrafts are hugely important to societies especially to those situated in rural areas.

Handicraft business provides employment opportunities even with low capital investment. There is a huge demand for handicraft items both locally and internationally. On the first day,

Deepa Soni, S.S. Baloria, Ramneek Kour, Shepali Sharma educated the students about artistic Designing, Basholi Painting, Handlooms and Chamba Embroidery respectively. On day 2, a practical demonstration was given on the same. The students took keen interest in the demonstration of various arts- Basholi painting, clay art, Chamba embroidery etc. with great enthusiasm.

On the third day, programme was concluded with a competition to evaluate the students on how much they learnt through this workshop.

In the Basholi painting competition, Manik secured 1st position, Mahida Mir secured 2nd position and Priti Bharti secured third position.

In the clay art competition, Shruti Dogra and Rushi Dogra secured first position, Parul Verma and Sheriya Sharma secured second position and Varun and Rashu Devi secured third position. The winners were also awarded with prizes.

All the staff members were also present in this program.
