Translation Day celebrations held at CUJ

JAMMU: Department of English, Central University of Jammu celebrated Translation Day by holding a series of activities in the university campus on 9-10 October, 2023.
Echoing the contribution of translators in bringing various cultures together, the department organized a series of events event centred on the theme "Translation Unveils the Many Faces of Humanity".
The event kick started with an inaugural lecture by Prof. Raj Kumar from Delhi University who spoke on Indian Literatures in Translation.
In his address, Prof. Kumar examined the problematic of the process of translation and its relevance in nation building in multilingual, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country like India.
Further, Prof. Kumar also highlighted how translation is a phenomenon of discovery and recovery with illustrations from notable translations in India.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vandana Sharma, Head, Department of English and Dean, School of Languages underscored the relevance to raise awareness about language and translation among students.
She further shared that Central University of Jammu with its pan-India ethos is the most appropriate institution to hold deliberations on translation which acts as a bridge across cultures and nations and the department has initiated the process of translation at the student level as part of students' project work.
On day Two, Mohan Singh, Padma Shree awardee and highly acclaimed dogri writer deliberated over the nuances of the process of translation and richness and profundity of dogri literature.
Further, Singh motivated the young students to stay connected to their roots and culture so as to uphold their identity.Singh expressed satisfaction that the Department of English has taken an initiative to introduce students to Indian literature, particularly Dogri.
The Interactive session was charged with a volley of curious queries by young students and scholars of the department.
Dr. Neena Gupta delivered the formal vote of thanks. On this occasion, students of the department, Hiteshi, Parvez, Shubham and Radhika presented a skit on the importance of translation which was well-appreciated.
