RAJOURI: International School Rajouri organised Youth Parliament in its own campus today with 40 odd participants of class IX and X to strengthen the roots of democracy and contribute towards nation building.
Regarded as having the world's largest democracy, India needs to nurture conscious citizens to carry forward the legacy and Youth Parliament is a wonderful step towards it.
The session began with oath ceremony of the newly elected members and this informative programme was a replica of what is seen on the television screen. Be it the Speaker or the Prime Minister, Home or Finance Minister or even the Opposition, the students did a stupendous job.
The Hall reverberated to the heated discussion on burning issues like Inflation and how education is improving the economy of the nation. The house demanded relief on price hike of grocery essentials.
The finance minister not only announced an excise duty cut in essential items; but also notified subsidies to crores of households that are registered under the various schemes of Government which are aimed to provide basic amenities to poor households.
The Youth Parliament also witnessed a constructive debate over the new education policy. The opposition leader blamed the govt for poor Irrigation schemes and improper allocation of Railway budget.
The Irrigation minister gave a detailed report of the development projects covered and the schemes implemented. The Railway minister gave an insight of the budget and defended his allocation for the upliftment of Indian Railways.
In the last Bill for women reservation was discussed in the house and later it was passed unanimously.
Beautifully crafted by the Social Science Department, the event taught the future leaders the healthy habits of discipline and tolerance towards different viewpoints. It also enabled the student community to know about practices and procedures of the Parliament.
The event was a true example of Experiential Learning.
