Afreen becomes first to win Silver medal in Kyorugi for J&K

SRINAGAR: Afreen Hyder has won first-ever senior silver medal for Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (JK-UT) in Kyorugi, a full-contact sparring discipline, in the history of J&K Taekwondo.

She represented Jammu and Kashmir at the 39th National Senior Taekwondo Championships held at Guwahati, Assam between 9 to 11 September.

The Championship was organized by the All Assam Taekwondo Association, under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Afreen Hyder faced fierce competition from athletes across the country. She won her first fight against Rajasthan by 5-0, 9-8; the second fight against Sikkim by 13-01, 15-01, third fight against Manipur by 7-0, 02-01, fourth fight against Madhya Pradesh by 02-01, 03-01 and in the final she lost to Kerala.
