JU organises lecture on Anti-ragging

JAMMU: In observance of ‘Anti Ragging Week', the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organised a lecture on ‘Anti-Ragging' by Dr. Vijay Saigal, Assistant Professor, Department of Law at the Seminar Hall of DSW.

The purpose of organizing the lecture was to sensitize the students about different regulations related to ragging. It was attended by a sizeable gathering of Class Representatives, Cultural Representatives, Scholars, members of anti ragging squad and members of Campus Cultural Committee.

Dr. Vijay Saigal, in a very engaging and comprehensive manner, dwelt upon different aspects and repercussions in connection with Ragging. How the behavior of individuals incite them to commit this crime and spoil their career in addition to the physical and mental health of the victim was very lucidly explained by Dr. Saigal. He urged the youth to stay away from this criminal act and also to enlighten others towards the resultant penalties.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Prof. Monika Sethi set the tone of the session and asserted that there is zero tolerance towards the menace of ragging in the University of Jammu. As prevention is always a better option, that is where this lecture will play a vital role in making students aware about what constitutes ragging.

The members of Campus Cultural Committee who attend the lecture included Dr. Harish Dutt, Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Dr. Tsering Yangzom, Dr. Harleen Kaur, Dr. Monika Gupta, Mr. Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Dr. Neelam Choudhary, Dr. Harjit Singh, Dr. Ripu Daman Parihar, Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr. Ripu Daman Parihar.

The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare) and Prof. Monika Sethi (Chairperson, CCC) and was monitored by Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, CCC), Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean SW), Dr. Shallu Sharma and Dr. A. R. Manhas (Dy. Chief Proctors), Ms Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer) and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor).
