JU Department of philosophy organised a lecture cum interactive session

JAMMU: Department of Psychology, University of Jammu organized a lecture cum interactive session on Friday. Prof. Mamta Sharma from Department of Psychology, Punjabi University, Patiala was the resource person.

The session started with a welcome note by Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean of faculty of Social Sciences and I/C HOD, Department of Psychology. She presented her views on the importance of "Inclusion of Psychologists in Countering Drug Addiction".

With her expertise in drug anti-addiction awareness and prevention, as well as her dedication towards addressing student grievances. Prof. Sharma is a beacon of knowledge and compassion.

During her session, Prof. Sharma shed light on the concept of ‘Nasha Mukht Mohalla' emphasizing the importance of creating environments free from the grip of addiction. Prof. Sharma emphasized that the issue of addiction knows no gender boundaries, highlighting that girls are equally susceptible to being affected.

Prof. Sharma also discussed the significance of harm reduction approach in tackling addiction by focusing on minimizing the negative consequences of substance used and promoting safer behaviours.

Prof. Sharma delved into the concept of buddy programs, highlighting their effectiveness in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction. In her session, Prof. Sharma discussed how liquor is often referred to as the ‘gateway' to alcohol consumption. The resource person emphasized the vital role of psychologists in countering the drug addiction.

Their expertise in understanding human behavior, mental health and effective intervention strategies can greatly contribute to designing comprehensive and targeted approaches for prevention, treatment and recovery.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sarita Sood, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu.

The engaging lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session where attendees had the opportunity to seek Prof. Mamta's expertise. All the faculty members along with the scholars were also present.
