JU celebrates Kargil Diwas under the banner of Meri Matti Mera Desh Abhiyanin

JAMMU: NSS Campus Unit I in collaboration with Office of Programme Coordinator, National Service Scheme, University of Jammu commemorated Kargil Diwas under the banner of Meri Matti Mera Desh Abhiyanin the adopted village Purshoti, Akhnoor on 26 July 2023.
As a part of the mandate various events were organized which included conduction of Mega- Plantation Drive at village Purshoti, Honoring of Ex-service men with presentation of plants by Senior NSS volunteers of the Unit, Panch Pran Pledge taking ceremony at famous historical site Ambaran Buddhist Stupa situated in Akhnoor And also Yuva Portal orientation by Dr. Shallu Sehgal, PO, NSS Unit I University of Jammu.
Nearly 35 volunteers from the unit, people from the village including Sarpanch and Panches of the village and adjoining villages,social workers, retired masters, local men, women and children participated with full enthusiasm.
The event was conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor and Chairman, NSS University of Jammu, able guidance of Prof. Savita Nayyar, Convenor, NSS Campus Units and support of Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator, NSS , University of Jammu.
Volunteers from different departments; Department of Economics, Department of Sociology, Department of History, Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, Department of Political Science, Department of English, Department of Punjabi, Department of Dogri, Department of Hindi, Department of Philosophy, Department of Life-Long learning and Department of Psychology participated in the event.
Among those who were present included Ex- servicemen namely, JagjivanRam, Sanjeev Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Surendra Pal, Krishan Lal, Balweer Singh, Narendra Kumar, Narendra Sharma, Sarpanch of the village Rash Pal Sharma, Panches namely Bhagwan Das, Noor Jamwal, Rach Pal and retired teachers, social workers and teachers of Government Primary School, Purshoti.
The entire event was conducted by Dr. Shallu Sehgal, NSS Programme Officer, campus unit-I.
She also expressed her gratitude to Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator, NSS University of Jammu and to all heads of the departments under the unit I for rendering their full support for the successful conduction of the event.
