DC Kishtwar chairs 10th NCORD meeting

KISHTWAR: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, today chaired the Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee meeting here at the DC office in Kishtwar to address the pressing issue of drug abuse in the district.

The meeting was attended by SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal, ADC Kishtwar Inderjeet Singh Parihar, SDM Paddar/DPO ICDS Dr. Rishi Kumar Sharma, Tehsildar HQ Chander Shekhar Sharma, Dy CMO, Nodal Officer Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) District Hospital Kishtwar Dr. Arif Rashid, CEO, along with heads of educational institutions, ASHAs, and AWWs, besides other members.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to adopt a comprehensive approach in combating the menace of drug and substance abuse in the district. He stressed the importance of focusing on multiple aspects, including the medicare of addicted patients, the declaration of Nasha Mukt Panchayats, and the involvement of ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists), AWWs (Anganwadi Workers), and teachers in the Nasha Mukt Panchayat Abhiyan.

To ensure effective monitoring and progress of intervention measures, the Deputy Commissioner directed the ACR/SDMs to constitute Village Surveillance teams within their jurisdiction, comprising members from the civil and police administration. The teams will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of measures and providing necessary support to combat drug abuse.

The Deputy Commissioner also urged all stakeholders to collaborate and develop action plans to address the intervention measures in various hotspot areas affected by drug abuse. He emphasized the need for intensified hard and soft interventions to effectively contain the menace of drug abuse.

During the meeting, SSP Kishtwar also shared valuable insights and recommendations, contributing to the comprehensive approach discussed. The meeting also discussed the number of cases registered under NDPS.

Additionally, the participants deliberated on various intervention measures and stressed upon the strict adherence to the instructions issued by the government from time to time with regard to achieving a drug-free society under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the ATF authorities for the treatment of addicts with compassion.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the progress made on the action points discussed in the previous meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner personally interacted with ASHAs and AWWs who recently underwent training, acknowledging their role in combating substance abuse and their commitment to the cause. He stressed the need for conducting more awareness and training programs.

Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the need for intensified weed destruction measures throughout the district, recognizing it as a crucial step in curbing substance abuse. The Deputy Commissioner also directed to take stringent action against all those involved in the cultivation of poppy in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav highlighted the role of all stakeholders for their valuable contributions and urged them to continue working together to combat substance abuse effectively.
