GCET Jammu holds one day awareness programme on yoga

JAMMU: The NSS unit of Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu in collaboration with Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor today organized a one day Yoga awareness programme to commemorate the upcoming 9th International Yoga Day under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

The event was held under the patronage of college Principal Prof. Sameru Sharma. In her address to the participants, she said that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition to the world. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action and creates harmony between man and nature. It's a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not only about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature.

Around 90 participants including students and staff participated in the awareness programme.

The resource person for the event was Dr. Abhisheik Magotra who is working as Associate Prof. in Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor. He said that stress is a buzzword of the modern world and stress has become an acceptable way of life today, which is surely not at all good for our physical and mental health. Yoga seeks to replace this stress with calmness and peace. That's the importance of Yoga.

He also appealed to all the participants to be aware of the public in their surroundings to follow the Yoga protocol and make yoga as part of their life.

The event was organized by NSS volunteers Gazanfar Kazmi, Rakshant Balotra, Sunidhi Sharma, Satvik, Harshdeep, Divyansh and Usman under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr. Raman Gupta.

He also thanked the yoga team of Dr. Abhisheik including Dr. Sheetal Gupta and Archna Sharma.

The event ended with a vote of thanks by senior NSS volunteer Ms. Reeya Rehan.

The staff members who were present during the event included Prof. Manoj Gupta, Dr. Neerupama, Dr. Heera Saini, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Prof. Altaf Ahmad, Balbir Singh, Er. Amit Pandoh, Er. Atit Sharma and Sudershan Kumar.
