VC JU chairs review meeting regarding preparation for NIRF & NAAC

JAMMU: Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Umesh Rai today held an interactive session with all the stakeholders to review the preparedness of the University for forthcoming NIRF and NAAC Accreditation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Umesh Rai called upon all the stakeholders of the University to work proactively to build on their strengths for better ranking in various bodies.
He exhorted upon the entire faculty to work on enhancing their research profile which will eventually help the institution to secure a higher ranking.
He further assured the gathering that measures to make the system more user- friendly and ease out the procedures are underway and the administration will extend any and every support to the research initiatives of the teachers.
He expressed his gratitude for unconditional support from J&K government for various infrastructure development projects.
He also acknowledged getting unprecedented support from the teachers and all the other stake holders of the University and expressed hope that the same shall help in steering the institution towards academic and research excellence. In this context, he shared that such review meeting shall be held every month with the faculty and officers of the University to assess the progress made by the University on various parameters.
Earlier, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Deputy Director DIQA gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the various criteria for evaluation and Ranking of the University by various bodies like NIRF and NAAC.
In her presentation, Dr. Dogra apprised the gathering that the University of Jammu is at par with other highly ranked State Universities in the criterion of Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Graduation outcomes (GO) and Outreach and Inclusivity.
However, the University needs to focus more on Research & Professional Parameters and Perception criteria to qualify for a higher ranking.
Various stakeholders were also invited to give their report on the initiatives undertaken for the preparations of NAAC.
In this context, Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examinations appraised the house that the examination wing caters to about 2.5 lakh examinees in which 2 lakh are Undergraduate students.
He further said that for this the Examination Wing of the University has adopted an automated process of declaration of results and also the implementation of the ERP system is under process.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD&OE apprised the house of the various initiatives being taken up in DD&OE including setting up of Digital Studio for various academic activities at the earliest.
Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning informed the gathering that various initiatives of repair and renovation along with the upkeep of the Centralized facilities are being undertaken by the University to make them differently abled friendly.
Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Dipanker Sen and Prof. Sarika Manhas shared that the University has acquired the LMS and has its own Moodle to enable the faculty to design and run online courses. Various capacity building workshops are being regularly conducted to and the faculty is being encouraged to submit proposals for their courses.
Prof. Piyush Malviya apprised the gathering about the various environmental initiatives taken up by the University which include sensor based energy consumption, designing structures from waste etc.
He also informed the house that the University of Jammu has been issued Green Audit Certification besides Green Champion Award. He further shared that the University is also in the process of developing Sewage Treatment Plant and drainage system.
Prof. Alka Sharma, director, SIIEDC shared with the house the various initiatives undertaken by SIIEDC in the verticals of Skill, entrepreneurship, innovation and incubation, IPR and the Design your degree course.
Er. Anik Gupta reported about the IT initiative and creation of Smart Classes in all the University Teaching Departments.
Prof. Vishav Raksha shared the details about the internal gender audit conducted within the university and also that the university fares well in the Gender friendly atmosphere of the University. She also said that a Gender Policy of the University is also being formulated.
Many senior functionaries including Prof. Anju Bhasin, Senior Professor, Dept. of Physics, Prof. Pankaj K. Srivastava, President JUTA, Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, DSW, Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Director TBS and Prof. K.S. Charak, Head Dept. Of Mathematics also contributed towards suggested measures to achieve a higher ranking by the University.
Other initiatives being taken up by the University including SMARTH were also shared with the house.
The interaction was attended by all the Deans, directors, heads, permanent faculty and officers of the University.
