DLSA Bandipora organizes Legal Literacy programme at GMS Authwatoo

BANDIPORA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in collaboration with School Education Bandipora Wednesday organized a Legal Literacy programme on Prohibition Act, 1961 and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 at Govt. Middle School (GMS)Authwatoo, Bandipora.
The programme was carried out under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority Bandipora, Amit Sharma and guidance of Secretary District Legal Services Authority Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak.
The programme aimed to spread awareness among the participants about Prohibition Act, 1961 and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The programme also looked upon understanding legal needs of the people and addressing legal problems of the people by giving appropriate legal advice.
Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak spoke at length about the significance of legal knowledge and the goals of the program. She emphasized the importance of women knowing their legal rights and exhorted them to get legal assistance when required.
She also disseminated information on free legal aid services, the protection of women against domestic violence act 2005 and Dowry Prohibition Act.
Secretary DLSA urged women to take advantage of the program and seek legal assistance if they face any kind of injustice or discrimination. She informed the gathering that any women facing abuse can apply for free and competent legal services against the abusers by seeking appointment of legal aid counsel in the panel of DLSA Bandipora to represent them.
The resource persons for the program were Bilal Ahmad Bhat (Advocate) and Aamir Shafi (Advocate).
They spoke on various forms of violence against women and the different special laws relating to women Various provision of the protection of women from Domestic Violence Act 2005, which provides different forms of remedies to the aggrieved person like Protection Order, Residential Order, Maintenance, Custody and Compensation and the evils like suicide, mental disorders, divorce, late marriages or sometimes no marriages, poverty as fathers are left with no option to sell whatever belonging they possess etc., were also highlighted by the Resource persons.
Students of the said institution also delivered speeches on the subject topic and informed the participants about the evil effects of the Dowry demanding and Domestic Violence on the community. They also informed everyone to spread information and knowledge to their respective community and society.
Staff members of DLSA Bandipora, teachers and students of the said institution, Para Legal Volunteers Bandipora and Civil Society members were present on the occasion.
