Two day Intra-College sports meet at GCET culminates

JAMMU: The two-day Intra-College Sports Meet organised by Govt. College of Engineering and Technology under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav and to make the students more fit both mentally and physically to achieve their goals was successfully culminated today.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students of all branches of engineering. The principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma, congratulated all the participants for their sportsmanship and said that sportsmanship is not simply to win, but to pursue victory with honour by giving one's best effort.

She also briefed the students that sports can teach values such as fairness, teambuilding, equality, discipline, inclusion, perseverance and respect. Sport has the power to provide a universal framework for learning values, thus contributing to the development of soft skills needed for responsible citizenship.

On day two of the sports meet, quarter final, semi-final and final matches were conducted in which more than 80 students participated in various events.

In badminton the winner was Vishal Verma of 6th CSE in boy's category and Krishma Raina of 4th CSE won the final in girl's category, in table tennis Anuj Dutt of 6th civil was the winner whereas team Civil Tigers remained winner in volleyball.

In carrom Loyal Seth of 2nd CSE won in boy's category and Mehak Bhagat of 2nd CSE won in girl's category.

In chess the final was won by Angad Singh Sodhi of M.Tech. The events for both the days were coordinated by the Physical Director and convenors of different committees.

The staff members who were present during the meet included Prof. Sumeer Khajuria, Prof. Baldev Raj, Prof. Shammi Kumar, Dr. Raman Gupta, Sh. Balbir Singh, Dr. Heera Saini, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Prof. Altaf Ahmed, Er. Surinder Salathia, Er. Amit Pandoh Er. Neeraj Gupta, Er. Yogesh Gupta and Er. Karan Kapoor.


The principal also congratulated all the convenors and members of their committees for successfully conducting the sports meet.
