JU's Environment Sciences Department hosted a technical symposium

JAMMU: A technical seminar on "Elemental and Carbon Analyses Techniques in Environmental, Geological, Soil, and Drinking Water Samples" was organised by the Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Analytik Jena in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu.

The seminar provided important insights into the latest analytical techniques and technologies for elemental and carbon analyses in various types of environmental, geological, soil, and water samples.

The seminar was attended by technical experts from various government departments, including the Pollution Control Board, Agriculture, Horticulture, and PHE, as well as research scholars and faculty members from the University of Jammu.

At the outset, a welcome address was delivered by Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Head of the Department. He formally welcomed the officials of the Analytik Jena for their efforts in conducting the seminar and highlighted the relevance of high-quality data generation in the field of environmental sciences for the progression of good scientific research.

He emphasized that it was a great opportunity for young researchers to learn from industry experts, network with peers, and gain valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in the field.

Devendra Singh, Territory Sales Manager of Analytik Jena, introduced the audience to various analytical equipment of the company having high relevance in environment-related research.

The first technical lecture was delivered by Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Product Manager, Spectroscopy, on "Elemental Analysis using AAS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS Techniques."

The second technical lecture was delivered on "Carbon Analyses" by M. Ananthan, Product/Industry Manager of the Elemental Analysis division of the company.

He demonstrated the modern state-of-the-art techniques used in the analysis of organic and inorganic carbonaceous matter in various environmental segments.

Lectures were followed by an interactive session where queries were taken from the participants.

Other faculty members present during the seminar were Prof. Sundeep Pandita, Director HRDC; Dr. Varun Parmar; Dr. Som Nath Kundal; Dr. Yudhbir Singh; and Dr. Vijay Saigal.

The members of the organizing committee included Dr. Deepika Slathia, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Atri, and Dr. Meenakshi Khajuria.

The seminar ended with a formal vote of thanks by Devendra Singh.
