AIIMS Jammu conducts training program for nursing officers

JAMMU: In continuation of the celebrations of International Nurses Day, AIIMS Jammu took an initiative to conduct an induction training program for nursing officers covering important public health issues and focused on measures that can make healthcare accessible and affordable in Jammu.
The First Aid and CPR Training Workshop was jointly conducted by the Department of Anesthesiology and the Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine.
Nursing officers were equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide proper, effective and timely management of critical patients and provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in any situation.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in support of the above theme undertook skill upgradation on High-risk pregnancies involving Anemia and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). In consonance with the Government of India initiative for "Cancer Mukt Bharat", the prevention strategies like cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccination and self-breast examination were also emphasized.
In continuation with the initiative, the Department of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank trained the Nursing officers on the topic of Safe Bedside Transfusion practices as a part of the Blood Safety Quality initiative to ensure Patient safety and quality care.
Department of Community Medicine conducted training of nursing officers on Comprehensive Health Care Delivery Systems and Public health nutrition.
The Department of Ophthalmology took this opportunity to sensitize and gave an overview of ophthalmic nursing, their role in eye health care promotion and preventive eye care.
The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology introduced the newly inducted nursing staff to the most relevant Medical Acts.
The Department of Pharmacology sensitized the nursing officers about what are adverse drug reactions (ADRs), their types, who can report them and methods of reporting them.
The Department of Microbiology conducted lectures on a series of topics while the Department of ENT briefed about how to provide basic first-aid, supportive care and management in case of common emergencies like nose bleeds, foreign bodies of ear, nose and aerodigestive tract.
The Department of Hospital Administration conducted a session focused on quality in health care, patient safety and patient satisfaction.
