Mayor takes anti-polythene campaign to DPS Jammu

JAMMU: The Mayor Jammu, Rajinder Sharma took the ongoing anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign to Delhi Public School (DPS) Jammu.

The campaign got overwhelming response by the students and staff at these institutions and over 1000 people filled the Commitment Certificate using the App thereby expressing willingness to join the campaign.

They showed commitment to stop using polythene from today onwards.

Students and the staff of these schools said that they shall now use carry bags made of biodegradable materials to lower the hazards on the environment and took an oath to support the campaign.

At DPS Jammu, Dr. Ritu Singh, PVC-DPS Jammu said that she will take personal initiative to strengthen the anti-polythene campaign.

JMC Councillor, Mohiudin Choudhary was also present on the occasion.

The Mayor expressed confidence that with such highly-spirited students and staff of educational institutions supporting the campaign, Jammu will be free from polythene and plastic made things within a month.

He informed that presently Jammu is worst hit by the massive use of polythene carry bags and plastic which has caused lot of pollution.

The Mayor said that on May 26, a walk shall be organised to further disseminate the message of anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign in Jammu.

"The walk shall start at 10 am from Parade Ground Jammu to Maharaja Hari Singh Park and the Chief Secretary of J&K, Dr. Arun Mehta will join the walk in which other officers and public at large will also participate," he informed.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Mayor, Baldev Singh Billawaria rejoiced that about 1000 students are daily joining the anti-polythene campaign.

Debate on ‘Hazards of Poly-Bags' was also organised on this occasion at DPS Jammu and Ruchi Chabra, Principal-of School along with Meenu Gupta and Ravi Kumar Kotroo, Headmasters-DPS Jammu, Umesh Kumar Sharma and Rimpi Sharma, Dy. Headmasters-DPS Jammu and Anu Bali, Coordinator/Supervisor-DPS Jammu also spoke on the topic.

DPS Jammu students who won the debate competition were Sheen Wanchoo, Class XII, first prize; Harman Singh Soni, Class XII, second prize while Pranavi Khajuria, Class XI and Parina Kandhari, Class IX jointly won third prize.
