World Red Cross Day celebrated at Udhampur Campus, JU

UDHAMPUR: Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu today commemorated World Red Cross Day 2023.

With this year's theme "Everything we do comes #fromtheheart", the day witnessed series of activities related to the Red Cross day celebrations.

Addressing virtually a gathering of enthusiastic students from Govt. Middle School, Salley, Udhampur, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur campus shared that the Red Cross Day honours the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement's enormous efforts to provide humanitarian help to people of all racial, religious, and political beliefs.

He went on to explain that the Red Cross Society strives to reduce suffering, uphold human dignity, and advance harmony, health, and wellbeing.

"Recently, the world has witnessed various crises that have not spared anyone and have also hit the most vulnerable people the hardest, including COVID-19, the climate crisis, humanitarian emergencies, and escalating conflicts, yet there is humanity and hope that can be discovered in the form of acts of kindness all around. Everything we do should come #fromtheheart', exhorted Prof Sharma.

It's time for the youth to give back to the country by working to preserve our great traditions of Vasudhaiva Kutambukam. On the occasion, students pledged to be more respectful towards their elders and helpful towards needy ones by offering voluntary services when required".

Earlier, Taruna Dubey, Coordinator of the event addressed the gathering about the significance of the day. She stated that the World Red Cross Day is observed annually to honor the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the visionary founder of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

She further discussed the principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and stated that the world Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is a time to celebrate the spirit of humanitarianism and recognize the individuals who make a difference in their communities.

In the later part of the event students from both Commerce and Economics department also presented their views on World Red Cross Day.

Further, students from school were encouraged to actively participate towards humanitarian efforts, taking tiny steps at their native places by helping their elders and people around them and the school management were asked to prepare an album of photos of children undertaking humanitarian efforts.

Later on, a small plantation drive was organized within the campus with the participation of students from Govt. Middle School Salley.

At the end, Tarun Dubey presented a vote of thanks by expressing her gratitude to Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, faculty members and non-teaching staff of the Udhampur campus and students and Staff of Govt. Middle School, Salley, Udhampur
