Udhampur Campus, JU organises free Oral Health check-up Camp

UDHAMPUR: To offer improved oral healthcare services to the local communities, a free dental check-up camp was organised jointly by Udhampur Campus under the community facilitation Centre (UCCFC)and PG Department of Orthodontics, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College & Hospital (IGGDCH), Rehari Chungi, Jammu under the patronage of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
Led by Dr. Akshay Gupta, Prof. and Head, PG Department of Orthodontics from Indira Gandhi Dental College and Hospital (IGGDCH), a team of seven dental experts including Dr. Faisal Arshad, Dr. Vikas, Dr. Reyaz Ahmed, Dr. Anurag JB, Dr. Ahtisham ishtiyaq Khan, Dr. Ameetpal Singh, and Bikram Singhoffered their service for the dental check-up of the local community of Garnai Lotta, Udhampur.
Approximately 150 patients, including local villagers, kids from government schools in and around Garnai, and students from Udhampur Campus, participated in the camp.
They all received free treatment as well as guidance from dental professionals during the camp.
The attendees received free medications, gum gels, dental pastes, toothbrushes, and mouthwash, among other items. While interacting with the locals, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu informed that the University of Jammu, along with its affiliated health institutions like the IGGDCH, aims to extend and expand health awareness to rural regions so that people may receive high-quality medical care close to home.
"The camp will assist create patient data banks, which will then be tracked for follow-up treatment of dental ailment, in addition to generating awareness about dental health and wellness in our life," added Prof. Sharma.
He continued by saying that it just so happens that the camp's planning falls on the same day as World Health Day, which was observed on April 7 this year with the theme "Health for All" by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Prof. Sharma expressed his appreciation for the IGGDCH Principal, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Dr. Akshay Gupta, and their medical staff for providing their unwavering support in setting up this camp at the Udhampur campus.
While stressing the significance of oral health and hygiene, Dr. Akshay Gupta, an expert orthodontist from IGGDCH, Jammu, said that the Govt Dental College, Jammu's Universal Health Coverage initiatives aim to provide easy access to the health care they need, without facing any financial hardship.
He also assured that those detected with dental ailments may visit the IGGDCH for the full treatment.
He stressed the importance of such cooperation between educational institutions and government agencies in order to promote citizens' wellbeing and build healthier surroundings.
Earlier, Dr. Mamta Sharma extended a warm welcome to the dental experts while Dr. Shilpa Gupta, faculty, Department of Economics, Udhampur Campus coordinated the proceedings of the camp.
In addition, Dr. Taruna Dubey, Dr. Sunita Kumari, Dr. Ritika Sambyal, Dr. Kamani Dutta, Nikhil Khajuria, Dr. Jyotishna, and Dr. Jatinder Kour, as well as non-teaching staff and students from the Udhampur campus, were present during the Camp.
